Find the outage section for the exact model

Start with the owner’s manual that matches the full model number. Search it for “power outage,” “battery backup” and any references to power venting. Heat & Glo describes battery backup on certain IntelliFire systems. Its examples use different batteries on different generations. Batteries in the handheld remote are separate from a backup supply at the appliance.

Write a card the next person can actually use

Keep the model and manual location on the first line. Below that record whether the manual permits operation during an outage, which backup it describes and which functions it says will be unavailable. If the appliance has a powered vent or its configuration is uncertain, leave the operation line blank until the manufacturer or servicing professional confirms it.

Include the exception that matters after a storm

If the unit was exposed to water, use the manufacturer’s water-exposure guidance before thinking about backup power. Heat & Glo says its water-exposed appliances should stay out of use pending contact with the dealer. Do not bypass controls or improvise a power connection. Once service returns, use the exact manual’s instructions for the backup supply rather than leaving batteries installed by habit.
