Find the warranty that belongs to the installed unit
Match the manufacturer, model, serial number and installation period to the relevant manual or written warranty. A dealer’s repair guarantee and a replacement part’s warranty may be separate documents. If the original papers are missing, ask the manufacturer which revision applied when the fireplace was sold. A current advertisement for another model is a poor substitute.
Separate the transfer question from the clock
For example, the May 2024 Heat & Glo SlimLine IFT owner’s manual contains an HHT warranty allowing transfer to later owners without restarting the period or expanding the coverage. That describes the identified manual, not every gas fireplace. Ask the manufacturer what starts the period for yours, what evidence it accepts and whether the component in question has time remaining.
Get the repair route before ordering an expensive part
Keep an original sales or installation record, documentation of the sale of the house if requested, photos of the label, the diagnosis and a copy of the applicable warranty. Ask whether prior authorization or a particular service provider is required. Confirm any separate charges for diagnosis, travel or installation in writing before agreeing to the repair. A part approval alone may leave some of those items unanswered.
